Mother's Helper

Guess what we're canning today?

People often ask me how I manage to do all that they think that I do.  The short answer is....I don't.  Truly.  There are plenty of things that don't get done around here.  I just put away my husband's winter coat last week.

Strangers also sometimes ask if I have "help".  I think they mean a nanny.  Er, no.  I'm a farmer's wife.  I AM the help.  (I do have a sweet lady who cleans my house twice a month.  Well, well worth it).

The other morning I had a bunch of canning to do, and a little girl too young to play out in the pasture with the big kids.

No one tell her that work isn't supposed to be fun, okay?

Charlotte, 2 years old.

One of my favorite things.
Another one of my favorite things.

During the time it took me to can a batch of pickles, Charlotte "helped" me scrub cucumbers, wash (already clean) plastic dishes, my apron, her shirt, and large parts of my kitchen floor.

All the money in the world could never buy help as precious to me as this.
